My Story
Intro
With youtube, podcasts etc many people are now getting their entertainment fix online as opposed to watching TV or listening to radio. Nina’ s company is the first bilingual (Malay/English) entertainment website in Singapore delivering broadcast quality for portable devices such as phones, iPods and PSPs.
About Me
I grew up in Singapore exposed to the media industry at a very young age because my parents are both actors. I myself was acting since my childhood but didn’t pursue it seriously until I was grown up. My interests have always been inclined towards the creative and media industry because of the exposure and I pursued my tertiary education in Film, Sound and Video. Although I’ve been acting and producing as a freelancer for 10 years, I didn’t really know my real ambition until recently. What I knew about myself since young though was that I do not want to be in my parents’ shadows and that I would like to carve out my own name in the industry based on my own skills, capabilities, sheer hard work and achievements.
After having gained experience in my field, I realized the impactful way to contribute towards building a better industry was to head out with my own company to pioneer in a movement to set a better standard and to come up with something new. I know now for sure what I want and the direction I am taking. I want to inspire other colleagues to do the same and come up with even better ideas of their own to further flourish the industry.
I love traveling, discovering foreign cultures and making new friends from all over the world. I love discovering new music and enjoy going to concerts and festivals. I am constantly amazed by architecture and interior design. In a parallel life, I am probably collecting old and unwanted furniture and exploring with upholstery. I draw inspiration from people around me and from talented colleagues in the industry. I believe that if I wanted to help other people or inspire other people, it should start with the closest people around me. I love conceptualizing ideas and making it happen. And I want to work and collaborate with as many creatives alike in this lifetime.
Some words I live by…
One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art – Oscar Wilde
Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known – Chuck Palahniuk
Life attracts life – Paulo Coelho
Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse that the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream – Paulo Coelho
My Venture
After being in the industry for many years behind the camera and on the frontline, I gathered that there are many areas in which the industry can improve on. Although we are advanced in certain areas, we may be very late in others. Such an instance would be the move from traditional medium to being online.
I observed that many people are now getting their entertainment fix online as opposed to watching TV or listening to radio. We are doing that online now. To be really honest I was envious of the countries/networks which were already making their content available online. I decided to be proactive in actually making it happen for the industry I came from.
RightBrain Pte Ltd is a new media creative agency. Our services include filming and post production for broadcast and web, photography, web and graphic design, copywriting, web development and administration, online brand intelligence and brand management using social media.
RightBrain launched Awan-awan.com in May 2009 with our webtv as a first phase. It is the first bilingual (Malay/English) entertainment website in Singapore delivering broadcast quality content. Our content is also available for portable devices such as phones, iPods and PSPs. Following phases include a music section and a film section to showcase current and upcoming talents in the respective fields. We will also install awan-awan blog that covers culture, events and fashion in written and video format. We also have plans to expand awan-awan into the Malaysian market.
Awan-awan.com is an insight to not only our Malay entertainment industry but also our culture and people. We not only want to share information and educate our youths but also the rest of the world.
I hope that with awan-awan.com, it will spur my peers in the industry to do the same or even come up with even more interesting ideas to make this industry a progressive and prosperous one.
