I am an entrepreneur, because I enjoy expanding my experience in working though I'm still young, especially in earning multi-benefits and social improvements to participate helping people.
My Story
Intro
Indonesia was once considered the dirtiest country in the world based on the data of the World Health Organization. However, waste is one of environmental problems so close to our daily lives. It brings about air pollution if it is burned, causes water pollution if we litter it into a river and spreads diseases and other health disasters. As 60% waste comes from houses, Vania is inspired to reduce home waste and earn money from it to solve some poverty in Indonesia.
About Me
I'm Vania Santoso, the Asia Regional Ambassador for Environment in Indonesia. My passion is to foster a healthy environment for a better life, taking into account the economic outcome. This passion is originated from the facts that waste and poverty in my neighborhood is towering. So, I have overwrought myself to convert waste into money to solve those matters. I get national & international awards regarding to this useful idea project.
Personally, I love singing, public speaking, designing, and networking. That's why I do communicate my project through some unique ways such as Environmental Video CD songs album, stickers, etc.which are home-designed to minimize cost. I suggest the environmental songs can be used to support most of daily activities to remind people who sing it to save the environment. I enjoy having many friends to share knowledge and skills for decency.
As social creatures, I realize that we need other people to work together and help each other. So, I want to expand my network to cover as many people as possible. The most important thing is that we live together on this earth. Therefore, I'm always campaigning to save the environment for our future. "Give a life to the environment as the environment gives its life to us."
My Venture
I started this project in 2005 because Indonesia was ever stated as the top dirtiest country in the world based on the data of World Health Organization. Waste is one of the most complicated environmental problems that bring about many pollution, diseases, and disasters. As 60% waste comes from houses, I was inspired to reduce waste from its main source and earn money from it to help relieve some poverty in Indonesia.
Ever since, I always make up unique campaigns to schools and all communities in Indonesia, especially youngsters to start doing small business through recycling non-organic waste to make unique souvenirs and through composting organic waste to be fertilizer.
By selling those 2 products, people can get additional income. Or, we can give away those unique souvenirs to meet our interpersonal needs and reduce our contingency expenses. Whereas fertilizer can grow plants of better quality faster, which in turn may conserve biodiversity, prevent flood, and reduce air pollution. My multi-benefits project even can change bad image of Indonesia as dirtiest country in 2005, to be 1st winner of international award.
I plan to make this project more worldwide and get new innovation too. Hopefully, in the future I'm capable to build home-industry for these and even to export those 2 products.

Greetings from Washington, DC. I live within walking distance of the Embassy of Indonesia :)
Congratulations on being recognized for the Fellowship! I love your idea of getting the younger kids involved in the schools and the communities as well as your observation about other challenges that 'waste' cause.
Good fortune with your initiative and please let me know if there is anything I can do to support your cause and your vision.
