I am an entrepreneur because I saw a social need that had to be addressed immediately and I felt that I could adequately address it by taking it up institutionally.

My Story

Intro

In year 2007 India experienced the highest number of road accident deaths in the world, with almost 13 every hour on an average. While in some cases victims do not have any chance of survival due to severity of the accident, in hundreds of cases victims have succumbed to their injuries primarily due to lack of timely care, or no care at all. After the death of his cousin Piyush established the SaveLife Foundation to reduce the mortality rate on Indian roads.

About Me

In year 2007 India experienced the highest number of road accident deaths in the world, with almost 13 every hour on an average. While in some cases victims do not have any chance of survival due to severity of the accident, in hundreds of cases victims have succumbed to their injuries primarily due to lack of timely care, or no care at all. After the death of his cousin Piyush established the SaveLife Foundation to reduce the mortality rate on Indian roads.

My Venture

I established the SaveLife Foundation (SLF) in February 2008 in response to the ever-increasing incidents of road accident deaths in India due to lack of timely intervention to save the victims.

It is a well-known fact that the first hour of an emergency, often called the “Golden Hour”, is the most crucial. If the victim can be stabilized and transported safely to a hospital in this timeframe, his or her life can be saved. Given the present situation of emergency medical response in the India, it becomes essential for members of the community, the bystanders, to play a proactive role in saving the victim’s life. Furthermore, local police that is often the first to reach the spot of an accident needs to be sensitized and trained in dealing with an accident victim.

The objective of SLF, therefore, is to engage the community to collectively respond to road accident emergencies to save lives. Since its inception we trained hundreds of community volunteers and policemen in Basic Emergency Care. These training sessions impart essential skills such as reviving a victim, controlling bleeding, spine immobilization and transportation, all with bare hands or by using things commonly available on the roadside. It also aims to resolve apprehensions of the community towards helping accident victims.
