My Story
Intro
Movies can envision the need for social change, they can change the way we're thinking and introduce new opinions to our world. Movies have the potential to change attitudes and beliefs, and ultimately to bring about individual and social change. Read the story of Meghna and Madhusudan who have the passion to make moving and meaningful movies about social issues in India.
About Us
MAM Movies was started by Meghna and Madhusudan after they returned from United States with just one simple idea: to create a space for crazy, restless, passionate people who would like to use Media for social change and who would believe to surrender for cause bigger than themselves.
The foundation of MAM was laid and inspired by many selfless souls, such as Nipun Mehta, founder of Chairtyfocus.org who believed in the beauty of random act of kindness to Jayesh Bhai of Manav Sadhna who insisted on self purification through our work and Dwarko Sundarani, one of the last active disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, who told us : “God is in everything, go find your truth through whatever you do”.
After graduating from a film school in California, after making a feature, documentary and corporate films, and then leaving it all to return to India following a little voice within, we finally found our calling when we formed MAM Movies. We are passionate about telling stories of compassion, love and selfless service. We feel blessed for being able to use our skills to bring happiness outside and stillness within. Being an entrepreneur gives us freedom to takes risks and experiment with infinite possibilities. Our Venture
MAM Movies was started 3 years back as an experiment to use media for social change and transformation. MAM: 'I AM' is what it means in Sanskrit. To be able to go within through the medium of stories and use our talent for the needs of the world is why we have been created.
We believed inner transformation is very essential to bring outward change in our society. So we wanted to build a platform to inspire young filmmakers to volunteer and make short films on various social issues. More than the project the process was important as it makes a lasting impression in our hearts and put forth a seed which blossoms when the time is right.
One of our projects is the “I am the change” film project, which is an attempt to inspire youth to get connected with local charities we launched I am the change film project. In a time restriction of 101 hours, 101filmmakers made 5 min short films on 101 NGOs. Supported by ICICI foundation and few other organizations, this project takes place every year in Mumbai, India and is considered to be one of the biggest film competitions for social cause.
In last 3 years more than 300 filmmaker have volunteered to make films on more than 200 social causes and non-profits with us. Numerous girls from the marginalized communities have learnt the skills of filmmaking and have become citizen journalists. Various non-profits have benefited with low cost professional videos on their work. And the inspirational stories are countless.
We have started an online gift economy network of filmmakers and artists who would like to share their skills as gifts with others. In future we are working towards creating a holistic, inspiring media center, which will incubate innovative experiments in using media to bring global transformation.
