I became an entrepreneur because I have vision and goal in my life and I want to develop myself along with my community.

My Story

Intro

Children from well-to-do families in India are able to speak English from a very young age. Mostly surrounded by educated people, they get an opportunity to learn, improve and speak the language with minimal or no flaws. Unfortunately, the under-privileged do not get such an environment at home or school and therefore often lack perspective to develop their own potential and to enter the various career options suited to them. Dr Pralathan and his volunteer are providing opportunities for those kids to discover and develop their potential regardless of their background.

About Me

I was born and brought from poor family in remote village. I was being attracted towards social work while studying in pre-university course. I had joined National Service Scheme when we were working with villagers for village improvement. In the same time my father joined anti arrack movement and I also involved with him for activism. We were organizing community members for anti arrack movement. After completion of my degree education in 2001, I joined an organization called TRDC, an NGO working for rural development in Haveri district of Karnataka, India as a documentationist. During that time I use to visit villages for every TRDC programs like child development, youth development, environment and micro finance, tank development and organic farming.

When I was working with TRDC I came into contact with different organizations and movements and I planned to develop my own NGO with my like-minded friends and started it in 2003.

I always uphold the justice of the society and I can’t tolerate the discrimination in the society. I came from poor family and I have always concern on development of poor community. Proper education and entrepreneurship development is the only solution for poverty alleviation. I want to employ more youths in development sector. In this process automatically I have become a social entrepreneur.

My Venture

My NGO Manuvikasa was established in 2003 and try to benefit depressed families of the targeted villages through empowerment of women and youths, providing education to the children and work for conservation of natural resources. In its 4 years of experience with experienced board members we initiated a variety of developmental programs in its target area for poor women, youth and children.

Main target group of the Manuvikasa is poor rural women folk, with an effort to make women more productiveand to empower them. We organize women and youths in small groups to provide them with microloans, to encourage self-employment and to provide them with trainings on legal education, health awareness and women rights.

Manuvikasa has considered education as a basic necessity of every person like food, cloth and shelter, but a prevalent child labor system and child abuses are a main obstacles for human development and universal education. So Manuvikasa is addressing these issues through different means. We run campaigns for universal education; help to poor children financially, network and lobby against child trafficking and any type of child abuse.

In the working area of Manuvikasa, a major proportion of the people in society are not provided with sufficient means of livelihood and people who are living below poverty line are facing immense problems like ill health, lack of food security and un-employment. Engaging people in employment not in wage employment but in self-employment is only the solution for all those problems. Manuvikasa realized this truth and encouraging people towards self-employment through conducting entrepreneurship awareness programmes, skill trainings; value added programs about agriculture produces and providing bank loan facilities and linkage to the government programmes such as SGSY and PMRY programmes to desirable beneficiaries.

Our immediate objective is to extend our NGO activity to  include health camps, reduce climate change and generate employment opportunity for young people to District level of North Kanara and Haveri of Karnataka. We have desire to give the opportunity to more than 50 young people to deliver their service in our NGO within next 10 years.
