I am an entrepreneur, because this is the only and the best means to get to my goals of Impact, India and Innovation.

My Story

Intro

Whereas in different parts of the world, countries are taking pro-active steps and reducing their emissions, India has sadly lagged behind. Emission caps until recently were neither taken seriously by the people nor by the corporates. But over the past two years the NextGen team has successfully persuaded many organizations to get their emissions accounted.

About Me

I am an Electronics Engineer from BITS-Pilani, hailing originally from Mumbai. I was a complete nerd during my school days and probably that helped me get into one of the best universities in India. However life changed completely during my Pilani days. With a rural setting, ample space and time to think and explore, Pilani gave me an ideal platform to understand myself, my dreams and motivations. During the 4 years at Pilani my ambitions changed from the 4Fs of Fame, Fortune, Female and Ferrari to the 3Is of India, Impact and Innovation. The cycle rides in the villages and also the internships in reputed firms in international locations made me realize that to pursue my ambitions, the only way would be through starting up on my own. I strongly believe that technology can and should be leveraged extensively to bring about social impact. However to achieve the desired scale and impact, it is essential that all social initiatives be economically sustainable. It is only the youth who can lead such initiatives and make them economically sustainable with their unbound energy, passion, perseverance and infectious enthusiasm. I believe in the power of “we” and it’s always Team NextGen wherever we go.

As an individual I love soccer and am a diehard Red Devil fan. I love cycling specially to unknown areas and meeting interesting new people.

My Venture

I am part of team NextGen, a company in the energy and environment space. We are trying to help India and the world progress sustainably both from a top down and bottom-up approach. We help companies Go Green by estimating their carbon footprint and reducing it through various energy and waste efficiency solutions. We have worked with prestigious clients including 5 Fortune 500 companies in this sector.

We work bottom up by setting up biogas plants that create energy from food and garden waste and cow dung in both urban and rural India. In the biogas front we have helped many universities and IT parks generate energy from their waste. We have also worked extensively in various states in rural India generating electricity from decentralized biogas plants.

NextGen started commercial operations from January 2009 after it was incubated at NSRCEL, IIM-Bangalore. However the idea of NextGen germinated during my undergrad at BITS-Pilani where we published a couple of research papers, won B-Plan competitions and did research projects for organizations like the World Bank. Our ultimate vision is to facilitate sustainable economic progress of India and the world through optimum consumption and clean energy utilization.
