I am an entrepreneur because I love to innovate, create models and start implementing them by working all day and night. It allows me to be who I really am!
My Story
Intro
In order to address the challenges of Global Warming, ever increasing vehicular air pollution, cost of fuel, traffic congestions, noise pollution and inadequate public transport a clean alternative-traveling option is intensely needed. ‘Cycling’ can not only tackle these highly visible problems but will also improve the fitness levels of individuals in an economical and eco-friendly way. Rajkumar decided to stop complaining about all such negative issues and started his own venture to provide citizens of Mumbai metropolitan with an alternative mode of transport.
About Me
Hi, I am Rajkumar from Mumbai and I consider myself as one of those lucky people who had opportunity to see and understand the great divide between rich and poor in a metropolitan like Mumbai. Life in the slums of Mumbai taught me that there are many things which have to be done and that doing them can be complex but also a lifetime opportunity to make a difference! This made me passionate about assessing the real problems and their root causes. I realized my passion in public service, politics and management. The situations made me understand that entrepreneurship can actually provide a way to systematically bring reforms in a more efficient and sustained manner than government and non-government institutions do at the moment.Having my voice heard at the topmost level of decision-making is my dream. I am always interested to study philosophy, public administration and politics. I found that this knowledge enhanced my understanding of problems around me and also why they are not getting solved. I realized that there are a lot of people who are willing to make a difference, people who are good in all their intents but they lacked the skills to implement their vision, I understood this and began chasing such abilities within me. I continuously realize my power to influence people and assert what’s right and what needs to be done. This power I feel is what makes me tick as a human being. I feel lucky to know that there are always such people ready to join you in doing right things! The important things I always remind myself is that I have immense responsibility – immense tasks upon me and have obviously less time to achieve everything, so I work as fast and as efficient as I can!
My Venture
After working with several non-profits in last three years, I’ve realized gaps in the managements which hamper the organization’s overall operations and thus their social impact. I always had a set of ideas that would address the pressing needs of poor in Mumbai.I started this venture with the vision to demonstrate a sustainable plan which would give power to individuals in putting their awareness on climate change into action and thus demonstrate the power in the hands of each one of us to make a difference regardless of our socio-economic status!
To tackle the increasing climate change situations and problems in the routine travelling of citizens I am starting a high-end bicycle rental service called “Cycle Chalao!” My customers can get a bicycle on rent at a nominal charge; they can pick it up from one spot and leave it at another close to their residence, colleges or workspace. By providing these services I want to demonstrate the ‘do-able’ things to tackle global warming. There has been a lot of awareness on global warming, but I believe we need to have some tangible, measurable products or services in the hands of the people to convert their awareness into actions. My plans for next three years are purely to scale-up our operations, as I want to create a significant social impact. By all such initiatives I dream to create a large community of people who care!
